
Midland Academy is a K-5 elementary school serving students
in the Muscogee County School
District in
Columbus, Georgia. The school opened August 21, 2000.
Enrollment
for the Academy is approximately 414 students in twenty-three regular
education
classes plus one pre kindergarten. This enrollment provides four
kindergarten
classes, four first grade classes, four second grades, four third
grades, three fourth grade classes and four fifth grades. There
is a full time
counselor, media specialist, art teacher, and music teacher.
The school includes
twenty three classrooms organized into three wings. The Pre K/K/1
blue wing consists of fourteen carpeted classrooms with
restores. The 2nd/3rd green wing houses twelve regular education
classrooms. The 4th/5th yellow wing includes eleven regular
education classrooms. The central wing houses the administrative
offices,
conference rooms, computer lab and media center. The activity
wing
includes a PE room, art room, music room, cafeteria and covered bus
loading
area.
Goals
<>1. Grades 2-5 will
participate in the Accelerated Reader Program and
utilize the S.T.A.R. assessment program and show an average Grade
Equivalent gain for students of one (1) GE on the S.T.A.R. Growth
Report. Kindergarten and first grade will participate in these
programs as they achieve appropriate word recognition skills.
2. Grades K-4 will complete research based projects. Fifth
grade will participate in the Social Science Fair.
3. All students will participate in the school wide Positive
Action Program.
4. All students will participate in the school's At-Home Reading
Program. A total of 1,300,000 minutes will be logged by
parents/guardians during the 2007-2008 school year.
5. We will conduct a minimum of 4 parent workshops during the
2007-2008 school year.
6. Classroom teachers will have regular communication with their
students' families.
7. We will prepare all students for their grade level specific
standardized tests such as the GKAP-R, CRCT, COGAT, and/or ITBS.
8. We will enhance the Peer Tutor and Peer Helper programs.
